SculpSure Q & A

What is SculpSure?

SculpSure is a safe, effective, FDA-cleared process to permanently eliminate unwanted fat. A noninvasive body contouring system, SculpSure attacks stubborn fat cells without surgery or downtime. It works for many body types, and women and men alike.

SculpSure uses targeted laser energy to damage fat cells, which are then swept away through your body’s natural healing process. The treatment can eliminate stubborn fat deposits in many areas of your body, including your:

  • Stomach
  • Waist
  • Back
  • Neck
  • Chin
  • Inner and outer thighs

The result is a slimmer, sleeker appearance.

How does SculpSure work?

SculpSure involves a fat-eliminating process called lipolysis. The treatment uses a specific wavelength of laser light — 1060 nanometers — that’s especially effective at targeting fatty tissues. The light penetrates below your skin and into your fat cells, disrupting them.

Heat from the laser light spreads through the fat cells to give you smooth, natural-looking results. The treated fat cells are eliminated over time by your body’s lymphatic system, a complex network of vessels that’s part of your immune system.

What should I expect before SculpSure?

Dr. Otaka reviews your medical history. You’ll discuss any medications you currently take. You’ll talk about your potential treatment areas, and discuss your expectations for the treatment.

Dr. Otaka then calculates your body mass index (BMI). You’re typically a good candidate for SculpSure if your BMI is up to 43.

He may advise you to stop taking certain medications a few days before treatment. Ibuprofen and aspirin can thin your blood and increase your chances of bruising. You’ll want to avoid those medications before your procedure.

What should I expect during SculpSure?

Dr. Otaka places the SculpSure instrument on your treatment area. If you’re having fat removed from your stomach, the device may be wrapped around you like a belt. The device delivers bursts of warm laser energy, followed by cooling therapy.

You may feel some tingling or pinching sensations during treatment. Your procedure is quick, typically 25 minutes per treatment area.

What should I expect after SculpSure?

After your treatment, you may feel mild side effects, such as slight soreness. You’ll begin to see results in as soon as six weeks. You should achieve optimal results 12 weeks after treatment.

Each treatment destroys about 25% of fat cells in the treatment area. You may need more than one treatment session to achieve your desired results.
